One year has already gone since our site went live. When we started, we could not imagine that, in this short period, we would have reached over 2000 unique visitors.

This achievement has largely exceeded our expectations and convincing us to continue to invest in the development of our site with new content and, we are already thinking about it, a new, more attractive graphic design.

We are happy that our message, left to these few webpages, on what we are able to offer our customer  as well as our vision has been well understood by our visitors. We have received several contacts, especially from abroad, for collaborations, projects and more and, let me say, this has been a stronger incentive to work on new solutions.

Thanks to expertise of our people, we are able to offer innovative solutions in the Optical Networking area.

OPNET Solutions was born from the idea of its founder who wanted to gather around himself several professionals able to make an active contribution to the development of the “Company’s Portfolio of Ideas” thanks to their expertise in specific fields.

Our focus is OPtical NETworking, i.e. the fiber-based network infrastructure used as a traffic collection system in the network access segment. Our Company is able to offer expertise and innovative solutions in this area.

Why this clarification? The reason is related to the fact that one thing are long distance photonic networks, based on established optical transport technologies, another one is a backhaul (or fronthaul) infrastructure for collecting user traffic.

Distribution networks simply transport traffic and, therefore, they require the traffic to be “switched” and not “routed” from a point of origin to the point of destination without any particular processing of it. This helps to simplify and improve network design.

A new way to design networks. It’s not only our tagline but a real thing!

The use of optical networking solutions developed by OPNET Solutions allows to drastically reducing the cost per bit compared to traditional L3 solutions up to OTN solutions (Figure 1).

Several application fields can be addressed with OPNET solutions approach: to name a few, we start from backhaul/fronthaul networks for 5G/FWA networks, passing through metropolitan networks that can scale in capacity by increasing flows to 10G on the same physical support without requiring new fibers or higher-level interfaces much more expensive as those at 100G, up to optical cabling systems for data centers.

Our product strategy is divided into three successive steps (Figure 2): the first one points to the development of solutions and planning tools able to optimize the performance of an optical fiber infrastructure without having to face expensive technological investments.

The second one is aimed at developing software solutions for monitoring, management and security of fiber optic infrastructure.

And the last one? Well, without wishing to anticipate too much, the third will be the real breaking point with current methodologies and will have as its object the possibility of virtualization of the fiber optic network infrastructure. But we will have time to talk about it. Stay tuned!

New contents dedicated to wireless and optical technologies trends.

From the end of September there will be new articles dedicated to growing wireless technologies such as Wi-Fi 6 and 5G business models. We will dedicate more time to talk about our solution of performance monitoring solutions for many environmnents such as Smart Cities as well as more information on OPNET’s portfolio solutions and new optical technologies trends.
