The development of 5G mobile services and FTTx networks is leading to rapid traffic growth in the core network. This is requiring a capacity scale-up on metropolitan aggregation nodes that will require more infrastructure investment.
A careful design of the physical network can take all this into account without increasing the costs of services on which the ARPU of operators is gradually reducing. A network that takes into account the coexistence of mobile and fixed by-design services and that is able to evolve without requiring the introduction of new equipment in the access network segment.
OPNET has developed a specific passive fibre network architectures to support the mobile backhaul/fronthaul and to expand network capacity such as metropolitan rings or PON networks without investing into costly network transport solutions.
